• Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit Blu-ray box set is epically expensive

Even the most die-hard fans of Peter Jackson’s Middle-Earth series might find the latest collection’s price hard to stomach. According to an Amazon.com listing, fans of the J.R.R. Tolkien franchise might have to pay $800 for the entire collection of movies, which includes both the Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit trilogy.
According to Amazon, the limited collector’s edition will feature 30 discs, including all six Middle-Earth films in their extended forms, which are housed in “stunning faux leather books and collectible Hobbit-style wood shelf;” the films include An Unexpected Journey,Desolation of SmaugBattle of the Five ArmiesFellowship of the RingTwo Towers andReturn of the King.
Man, I know this thing is expensive but I want it. “The one-of-a-kind wood shelf is crafted from solid wood with design selected by Peter Jackson,” the description reads. In addition to the six films, the other discs will include bonus content, such as behind-the-scenes and other special features.
On top of the faux leather-bound books, the collection also features a 100-page sketch-style book filled with original film sketches and new artwork. Buyers also get the Red Book of Westmarch, which is the book Bilbo and Frodo wrote in The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings.
It’s an elaborate collection, to say the least, but nothing less than fans of the Middle-Earth franchise deserve. Sure, you can buy these movies individually and save a heck of a lot of money. Or, you can spend about a month’s worth of rent on a collection that will bring fans endless joy. Well, at least the Lord of the Rings movies will.
