looks like Google is planning to launch the final version of Android 7.0 Nougat on August 22. At least, that’s according to Canadian operator Telus, which lists the date as a “target launch” for Android N; the devices compatible with Telus’ network expected to get Android Nougat include the Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X.
For what it’s worth, Telus was accurate with its launch date for Android 6.0 Marshmallow, according to Android Central.
Really, the software’s early arrival shouldn’t come as a surprise, as Google released the first developer preview all the way back in March. Since then, the software has only gotten better, with July’s Developer Preview 5 being the most stable release yet.
Earlier this week, LG announced it will offer a limited preview of Android Nougat to G5owners in Korea, which just so happens to begin on Aug. 22. Are you starting to see a pattern?
If indeed Android Nougat lands on Monday, we should expect an announcement early in the morning followed by system images and an OTA update for Nexus owners.
Plenty of evidence suggests Google will also unveil two new Nexus devices soon, though it’s unclear if they’ll coincide with next week’s possible Android 7.0 release. Apparently, the LG V20 will be the first device to ship with Nougat, which means we can probably expect Marlin and Sailfish, the codenames for these Nexus phones, to come out shortly after.
Mark your calendars because it’s sounding like Monday, Aug. 22 is going to be a good day to be a Nexus owner.
