    Renault Kwid 1.0-litre AMT Preview

When Renault launched the Kwid last year, little did it realise that in just five months, it would be sitting on 80,000 bookings which are expected to take up to a year to clear. However, the automaker is not sitting and resting on its laurels. Instead, it will launch a 1.0-litre variant of the small hatchback which will be offered with a five-speed manual as well a five-speed AMT, a first for the automaker in the Indian market.
    Exterior
There are expected to be no major changes to the exterior of the 1.0-litre Kwid as compared to the standard car apart from badging. We expect the same for the AMT variants also.
    Interior
The cabin of this new car will remain unchanged from the standard 800cc model. However, new additions are expected to include the AMT rotary dial which will be fitted on the dashboard. There is currently a slot for it and this has been marked out near the steering wheel. The instrument cluster too is expected to undergo some minor modifications to accommodate the automatic nature of the vehicle.
    Engine and gearbox
The engine will be a new 1.0-litre unit that is expected to produce around 67bhp and close to 100Nm of torque. The manual is a five-speed unit which means the AMT too will be a five-speed unit. The ARAI specified efficiency of the 800cc unit is 25.2kmpl which means the 1.0-litre should not be too far behind.
    Price and competition
The Kwid 1.0-litre variant will compete with the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 which is also offered as a manual and an AMT model. The 1.0-litre models are expected to be priced around Rs 80,000 more than the 800cc models while the AMT spec cars will cost an additional Rs 20,000 over the price of the manual 1.0-litre variants.
