• IRCTC To Replace Its Old App With New "Rail Connect"

The Railway Ministry has unveiled a new app to help speed up the ticket booking process. The app is called IRCTC Rail Connect and it replaces the old IRCTC connect app. So far, it seems as if the new app is only available on Android, with no word on availability on iOS.

Suresh Prabhu, Railways Minister said "Rail Connect has been developed to bring the power of next generation e-ticketing system like high performance and enhanced security. Currently e-ticketing system caters to over 10 lakh passengers daily (comprising 58% of total reserved passengers). And to increase the ease to users, a new Android-based mobile application for reserved booking IRCTC Rail Connect has been developed,”

Speaking of the features of the app, Prabhu added “The new application has features like 24/7 service with no time-based checks, synchronisation of mobile app with NGET (Next Generation e-Ticketing) for ticket booking and simple and easy user interface,”

The app also boasts a self-assigned PIN system, which makes the process of logging into the service easier. The app has also been synchronised with the IRCTC website to make ticket booking easier. Users will be able to search and book train tickets via the app, the service also accepts payments from e-wallets such as Paytm and Mobiwik.

The app will also feature Upcoming journey alerts and the option to view and cancel train bookings directly from the app.
Per the ministry, they may also explore the advertising potential of the app to generate extra revenue, they are also looking at potential tie-ups with utility companies such as hotels and cab services like Ola and Uber.
