BMW pulls the plug on Z4 roadster
The BMW Z4 is gone and the beloved N54 I6 engine has gone with it
As of August 22, BMW has ended production of the Z4two-seat convertible.
The Z4 was an older platform last updated in 2009. Never a brisk seller, it competed with the Porsche Boxster and Audi TT. The death of the Z4 also means the end of the road for BMW’s excellent and well-loved N54 twin-turbo straight-six engine. Replacement plans for the Z4 are uncertain.
Rumours have been swirling around about a collaboration between Toyota and BMW to make a sports car often thought to be the successor to the Supra. While little is known about that car, it would seem to fill the gap left by the now departed Z4.
